Essay Contest
The Virginia PTA is sponsoring an essay contest with the theme Community Responsibility. Savings bonds ($1000 1st Place, $500 2nd Place, $250 3rd Place) will be awarded.
If your student is interested in submitting an essay – all the details can be found on the following link. Hurry to check it out, though – entries are due to the District coordinator by February 1! Wouldn’t it be great if a Hughes student was recognized?

Scholarships
Do you know a graduating senior who is planning to study to become a teacher or another youth serving profession? VA PTA sponsors scholarships which will be awarded to just such a student. The application is found at the following link – if you know someone, spread the word! The deadline to apply is March 1, 2012.

Date Change
There has been a change in the date for the 8th grade celebration planning that was originally posted in the January newsletter. The meeting is now taking place on Thursday, February 9 immediately after the PTA meeting. The changes to the newsletter have been made, but if you are interested, spread the word!
