Title IX Compliance
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1971 states, “No person shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” The types of discrimination that are covered under Title IX include but not limited to sexual harassment; the failure to provide equal opportunity in athletics; discrimination in a school’s courses and programs; and discrimination based on pregnancy.  The Division Superintendent designates the Title IX coordinator to coordinate efforts by Fairfax County Public Schools to comply with and carry out its responsibilities for implementing the law, including investigation of any complaint of alleged noncompliance with the law or accompanying regulations.

South Lakes High School Financial Aid Night
Thursday, November 30th, 6:30 PM, Lecture Hall,  No registration required. Presented by: Jack Zegeer, Financial Aid Manager and Cathy Hall, High School Outreach Coordinator, Northern Virginia Community College. This informational presentation is for students and their parents interested in attending 2-year or 4-year schools and is not NOVA specific.  Learn about the FAFSA and other important financial aid facts.

SLHS Advanced Academics and Curriculum Nights
South Lakes invites all parents and students to learn more about our courses and programs at our Advanced Academics Night on Thursday, January 5th at 6:30 pm and at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30 pm.

FCPS to Participate in Child and Adult Care Food Program
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a program of the Virginia Department of Health, that provides meals at no cost to eligible children and adults in the community. The same meals will be available at no separate charge to all participants at each CACFP facility without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation.  Meals will be provided by FCPS Food and Nutrition Services.

Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive

The Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting a Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive. Please help us kick off the holiday season by donating nonperishable items to families in need. Our Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive will begin on Monday, November 14, 2016 and will run through Friday, November 18, 2016. Students can drop their nonperishable items in the turkey bin that is located in The Hall of Nations!
All donated nonperishable items will be given to Cornerstone in Reston, VA
The Student Government Association (SGA) would like to thank you in advance for all of your generosity!

PTA Supports LHMS Staff

Hughes PTA, at its last meeting, agreed to subsidize the Hughes staff winter holiday party. $300 was made available to assist with catering the event. We want to recognize the hard work of Hughes staff and thank them for everything they do.

 Panther Pride 5k
The Panther Pride 5k Committee needs anyone interested in volunteering to help plan and organize the race. Email Traciwaller@aol.com for more information. The 5k is being held on February 25, 2017.
                                                                                            
LHMS Basketball Games
LHMS is in need of another co-Chair for the PTA sponsored Basketball Game against Herndon Middle School, which will be held in the early Spring. Mr. Kyle who runs after school activities handles recruiting and training the teams, and all arrangements for referees and the game site. The PTA Chairs are responsible for managing ticket sales at the door and concessions. If you’re willing to help out please contact Susan at President@LHMSPTA.com

Box Tops Challenge!

You Got Em? We Want Em!  It's time to send in those Box Tops!
The rules are simple:
1.  Put your box tops in a ziplock bag or envelope.
2.  Label it with the name of your student's Connections Teacher.
3.  Have your student turn the BoxTops in during their Connections period.  
4.  All box tops should be sent in before the end of the second quarter (2/3/16).

The Connections Class with the most BoxTops at the end of the Second Quarter will win a Pizza Party!

IB Information Night
South Lakes High School will hold an IB Information Night on Monday, November 28th at 6:30 pm in the Lecture Hall for middle school parents of students considering a student transfer to South Lakes High School for the International Baccalaureate Program.  
South Lakes invites all parents and students to learn more about our courses and programs at our Advanced Academics Night on Thursday, January 5th at 6:30 pm and at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30 pm.
